Central High School Biomedical Pathway
Powered by Project Lead The Way (PLTW)
Central High School’s Biomedical Science Pathway follows the nationally recognized Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum, designed to prepare students for college and careers in medicine, healthcare and biomedical research. Through hands-on labs, real-world case studies, and investigative learning, students build strong scientific knkowledge, technical skills, and professional competencies while exploring the human body and modern mecdical innovation. By the end of the pathway, students are confident, capable, and prepared to solve medical problems in the future.
Course Pathway:
Principles of Biomedical Sciences (PBS)
Human Body Systems (HBS)
Medical Intervention (MI)
Biomedical Innovation (BI) – Senior Capstone
The Central High School Biomedical Pathway prepares students to become future leaders in healthcare, medicine, and biomedical research through rigorous, hands-on, and real-world learning experiences. Through courses including Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Human Body Systems, Medical Interventions, and Biomedical Innovation, students develop strong foundations in anatomy, physiology, disease processes, research methods, and problem-solving. Students engage in work-based learning opportunities, participate in HOSA to build leadership and professional skills, and have the opportunity to earn an academic letter in STEM. This pathway cultivates critical thinking, compassion, collaboration, and scientific expertise—empowering students to pursue college and careers in the rapidly evolving biomedical and healthcare fields.
Students have the opportunity to letter in STEM, where biomedical science is the "S" of STEM. Students must complete 2 biomedical science courses and receive a grade of B or better. They should be active members in Health Organization Students of America (HOSA). The completion of 3 biomedical science courses with a grade of B or better results in earning an Biomedical Science Cord for graduation as a pathway completer.
