Engineering - Project Lead the Way

Central High School Engineering Pathway
Powered by Project Lead The Way (PLTW)

Central High School’s Engineering Pathway follows the nationally recognized Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum, designed to develop students into innovative thinkers, problem-solvers, and future engineers. Through a sequence of hands-on, project-based courses, students build technical expertise, creativity, collaboration skills, and real-world experience that prepares them for college and high-demand careers. Through PLTW’s structured progression, each course builds upon the previous one—moving from foundational design skills to applied engineering principles, to sustainable problem-solving, and ultimately to independent innovation. By the end of the pathway, students are confident, capable, and prepared to engineer solutions for the future.
Course Pathway
Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
Principles of Engineering (POE)
Environmental Sustainability
Engineering Design and Development (EDD) – Senior Capstone

The Central High School Engineering Pathway empowers students to become innovative problem-solvers and future-ready leaders through hands-on, project-based learning and real-world application. Through courses including Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Environmental Sustainability, and Engineering Design and Development, students develop technical skills, creative thinking, and analytical reasoning to solve authentic challenges. Enhanced by work-based learning opportunities, participation in Technology Student Association (TSA), and the opportunity to earn a letter in STEM, the pathway prepares students for college, careers, and success in an ever-evolving technological world.

Students have the opportunity to letter in STEM, where engineering is the "E" of STEM. Students must complete 2 engineering courses and receive a grade of B or better. They should be active members in Technology Student Association (TSA). The completion of 3 engineering courses with a grade of B or better results in earning an Engineering Cord for graduation as a pathway completer.
